HELMETS & FACEGUARDS
A BRIEF NOTE ON CRICKET HELMETS
Love them or hate them cricket helmets are here to stay, under ECB rules introduced in early 2000 all junior players playing with hard cricket balls under the age of 18 years are required to wear helmets when batting (in a match or net practice) and when wicket keeping and standing up to the stumps.
There is no doubt that a properly fitting helmet provides valuable protection against serious injury caused by being hit by a hard cricket ball. Initially wearing one will feel awkward but over time it will become second nature, more and more players at all levels are now using cricket helmets. Helmets should be a very personal item of protective equipment, not only for health and hygiene matters but also for comfort and safety. Over time the padding in a helmet will mould itself to a particular head shape and should thus ideally only be used by one player.
Traditionally helmets have been very expensive, costing upwards of £50, many parents are reluctant to spend this when there is a chance that their child will grow out of it or give up cricket. Quantum Cricket are pleased to be able to offer you a range of helmets starting from circa £27.50. These are not poor quality helmets, increased production has resulted in lower prices. Most cricket helmets are made of polycarbonate and are covered in cloth, they all come complete with a metal face guard and chin fastening straps.
